We arrived February 26, 2010 to our new home The Blending Room to begin our first task!
Drainage.
Why you ask? We need a drain for easy clean-up of our wine “messes”.
First things first: where do we start digging? where is that sewer pipe?
While digging holes for about an hour, thoughts of my life as a winemaker began creeping into my shoveling focused brain. If you asked me at that moment, what it means to be a winemaker? I would have to say winemakers are specialists in pipes. The repetitive shoveling motion flooded my mind with last summer’s vineyard work, digging trenches and gluing irrigation line.
In less than a year, I have seen more pipes in my life than I have ever care to see again. White pipe, sewer pipe, ABS, gray pipe, drain pipe, black pipe, PVC, copper pipe, water pipe, CPVC, iron pipe, irrigation pipe, corn cob pipe…

If you think you’ve had enough of the pipes…
I was the one down deep in the hole.
A tip of the cap to a mighty shoveler.
Only because I was the one holding the camera at that point. I can give you all the credit, even credit you with the pipe I broke while I was digging.
We can’t forget that Richard was in the hole getting muddy too.
