This is when I learned of Steve’s John Deere fanaticism (among his other fanaticism for Jimmy Buffett). He grew up in John Deere land North Dakota on an alfalfa farm. We bonded. I’m not sure if this means I too will become a Jimmy Buffet fan. What is it, Margaritaville?

We’re located at the entrance to Wapato Point, so Peggy and Steve often cruise down to The Blending Room in their golf cart. They make me laugh so hard. This is what I discovered on their golf cart key ring. (I bet if they made John Deer golf carts, they’d own it.)

I just came across this silly photo taken after many grueling late night hours shopping at Home Depot in Wenatchee trying to get The Blending Room ready for opening day last year 2010. I still found time to dream of the Free Hat that could be mine, if I purchased that John Deere sewing machine of a lawn mower. Too bad I was on a budget. I John Deere.

Just when we thought it was spring in Manson, we got two weeks of snowy weather here at The Blending Room. We have wine to rack soon, so the weather didn’t stop us from doing some barrel cleaning out in the snow. Racking helps clarify the wine by pulling the clean wine off the top while leaving the solid lees behind in the barrel. Longtime wino, Evan, came over from Chicago for a visit and we convinced him to help for a day in the cellar.

Evan assisted us with barrel washing, rinsing, scrubbing, moving and sulfuring just like a pro cellar rat. It’s a great help to have an extra pair of hands when moving around the heavy french oak barrels. It was a wet day at The Blending Room with a wild hose and melting snow, but any day the ends with a glassful of fine wine is a great one. I think our man, Evan, would agree.

It has been three months since my last Label of the Month post! How am I going to make it up to you?

How about a positive prognostication for the imminence of Spring?

February’s Label of the Month is dedicated to Phil and his ground dwelling colleagues. I’ll raise a glass of this sweet, red groundhog wine to Phil for 125 years of hard work pulling off a shadow-free morning (and predicting an early end to winter). Good on ya mate! Keep up the good work, and we’ll see you next year.
