Washington Wine Report is the work of Sean Sullivan. Sean reviews wines and provides news about the wine industry in this state. He relieves the community of Washington wine lovers of a burden by taking on the task of sorting out all the many wines from the many Washington winemakers. It’s a serious task, but Sean seems to have a passion for, not only, reporting on Washington’s wines but unraveling the stories behind the wines and wineries. The writing is appropriately detailed but not so overly descriptive that he has to invent adjectives to finish a paragraph.

Sometimes, we here at The Blending Room get so wrapped up in our own projects, that even though we live a wine life, we lose track of what’s going on in the greater state wine community. Washington Wine Report is a useful resource for quickly getting information about new wines and new developments in our constantly changing wine region. Now that I’ve found his blog, maybe I won’t have to go to any more trade shows.

Washington Wine Report recently tasted and rated our lineup of 2008 Kamari red wines. Thanks, Sean, for the kind words.

Upon opening our doors to the public recently, we received visits from a number of reporters of the news as well as wine writers and bloggers. Everybody wants to know what’s going on inside our new space. One of our first guests was the writer of the DrinkNectar blog out of Spokane and his lovely friends celebrating their very recent marriage at Lake Chelan. They came by to check us out while on an annual tour of the area’s wines and wineries. Take a look at his post with its thorough description of this year’s trip and the excellent accompanying video of his visit. There’s also lots of nice photos of the blue lake through the green vines. It includes lots of the best sights from around the area and is a good introduction to the growing wine world in Lake Chelan, Washington. We appreciate the visit from Mister DrinkNectar and look forward to seeing them again next year.

As you may know, last spring the Lake Chelan wine region received its very own federal AVA designation. Since then, there’s been growing enthusiasm about the area as a great wine producing region. We’re on that train for certain.

Now Seattle Magazine has named Lake Chelan the state’s ‘Best Emerging Wine Region’ in a recent article, 2010 Best Washington Wines.

Here’s a quote from the piece:

Though it currently has only 260 planted acres, the area is developing a reputation for excellent fresh, crisp Riesling and Chardonnay, as well as Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. “This area has potential to produce world-class whites,” Bob Jankelson says.

WineGirl Wines agrees. We’ve been sampling wines around the area as long as they’ve been making wines and have been excited by the potential for growing great wine grapes around this beautiful lake. That’s why we moved here. And the wine community here is a good one. We’ve hosted wine release parties here for years, always with a good response from great people. The area is getting some deserved recognition and we’re glad to be a part of its future.

The public service that is Spellout Seattle has something to say about WineGirl Wines. More specifically, they mention a wine deal offered to past and future fans by Premier Cellars. Three of our fine wines were offered online for a great price, but I’ll let you just read the page since they explain it purdy well. While you’re there, check out other recommended events.

Spellout Seattle is a site devoted to bringing news of arts and events costing less than $25. In one week, the site has selflessly alerted me to quite a few dangerous events such as the Seattle Cheese Fest, the opening of a new roller derby documentary, the big screen screening of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the World Extreme Pencil Fighting Championship. Not all the events mentioned on the site are dangerous but Seattle International Film Festival begins this week too, and if you love film, that could very well be detrimental to everything else in your life. I don’t have enough time to take advantage of everything Spellout Seattle recommends, but at under $25 per, at least I know I could afford the cost. It’s a valuable tool to keep up to date of Seattle-area happenings, so take a look.

As for the deal, head over to Premier Cellars to find three of our wines for $75. Prices are reduced for this deal, 1 cent shipping, etc. The package includes our 2008 Fira Chardonnay, 2007 My Derby Wife Merlot, and 2007 Kamari Black Label Reserve Red Wine Blend. There’s lots of info about these wines on the current wines page of winegirlwines.com. If you’re thirsty for fine wines at a fine price, you’re in luck this month.

My first encounter with Clive Pursehouse was through a cordial email invite to learn more about our winery under the theme of Seattle’s Urban Wineries. Immediately I could tell he was a writer and a gentleman simply by his lexicon. After several email exchanges I learned we had the University of Washington in common- he as an Administrator and I as a student in the Foster School of Business. So the University District was a natural meeting location. He suggested my new favorite restaurant Guanacos Tacos Pupuseria on Brooklyn serving fantastic Salvadorian Pupusas.

Gosh I was certainly nervous to meet with Clive! But most anything over good food is easy, so off I left to meet him one grey and rainy Seattle day. Guanacos is small, so it was hard to miss Clive seated in the center of it all perusing the menu, and I remember he said he’d recognize me either wearing a barrel or with a broken pair of sunglasses. Good one on him for doing his homework. I chuckled and was at ease. He then offered me the royal treatment and a true Pupusas experience, which was sincerely a treat when on a student budget. Let’s hope writers get to expense lunches at The Oregon Wine Blog especially when they are ranked 9th in Google’s Top 100 Wine Blogs.

So we chatted about social media and narcissism, wine and small wineries. He also introduced me to several of the little wineries in my area that I had never heard of like 509 Wines and Ward Johnson Winery. He was truly a dear wino friend! And, well the rest is history… follow this link to Clive’s story on WineGirl Wines.

Thanks for the words, Clive.
