It was such fun to share with locals and tourists alike the bounty of two little, neighboring businesses on the North Shore of Lake Chelan in Manson. The fan fave was the Firá Gewurztraminer and Gorgonzola Piccante. The 3.5% residual in the German-style Gewurz stood up naturally to the blue-flecked, cow’s milk cheese enhancing both and creating the Perfect Pairing for the evening.

Come visit us all at The Blending Room this Friday September 10th from 4 – 6PM, as we search for the ultimate cheese and wine experience.

This year’s wine release party was a grand success. It was WineGirl Wines‘ first party in our new location on Lake Chelan, so the celebration was a belated grand opening party too. We had a great turn out from old and new wino friends. We premiered five newly bottled wines and each was paired with a cheese provided by our neighbor, Lake Chelan Cheese. There was food, music, and lots of good conversation.

Later in the night, we projected black and white 16mm films on our newly unveiled covered deck. The weather was fine and it was a lovely evening for sitting outside and chatting over a glass of vino. And even later in the night, films gave way to an impromptu disco dance party.

Thanks to everyone who came out to help us release these new wines to the waiting world. Thanks, also, to the special folks that became our very first wine club members. It was great fun and we look forward to seeing you here next time.

This month’s label was inspired by a conversation with a customer about Nefarious Cellars. Now, I get really excited about great wine, great wine making and great wine stories, and this label delivers on all of the above.

Nonni & Zing Pinot

2002 Nonni and Zing Willamette Valley Pinot Noir according to their website:

…we started a label called Nonni and Zing. It was a small project of about 250 cases annually and was made entirely from fruit sourced from the Dundee Hills AVA. That was a good time.

The label features a jester with bright red pompoms on his top. The Nefarious jester can still be found in the background of the Nefarious wine labels today. My favorite part is the red and white polka dot foil. I also love how each wine is individually numbered by hand. Mine is 659 of 1680. Since I’ll never open it as a part of my collection, here are some tasting notes from someone else’s experience.

Polka Dots

This is an historical piece, no longer available or produced. I feel so lucky to have come across this bottle when Nefarious first opened in 2005. Back then they were just a chick, a guy, and a dog. Things have gone very well for the Neff’s and I am excited to have them in my own backyard.

I miss roller derby. I miss the creativity, the entrepreneurial, grassroots, DIY spirit. I miss the positive energy, the support, the exercise. I miss the girls, my best friends, my derby wives and team. And yes, I miss taking girls out. I miss that perfect hit that sends Valtron 3000 out of bounds. I miss everything… everything but the knee injuries.

So, all I have now is My Derby Wife Merlot and the amazing wine guests who stroll in and recount their personal experiences with derby. This week, in walked a colleague of the best co-cappie I ever had Carmen Getsome. It was such a delight to chat with him, meet his friends, and see how spirited he was about the sport. As a sports therapist he’s been helping the injured girls on Grave Danger heal and strengthen from their injuries. I wish he didn’t have to see that side of derby, but that’s a huge part of it.

Thanks for stopping in and I hope you have an amazing time at Carmen’s wedding. I wish with all of my heart that I could be there.
