Red Wine & Chocolate 2012

Who needs romance when we’ve got Red Wine and Chocolate? And oh boy, do we have incredible red wines and delectable artisan chocolates lined up for two palate-rich, hedonistic weekends in February. On February 11th and 12th, we’ll have chocolate pairings by Rebecca Chatham of Tempurr Artisan Confections. She’ll bring her incredible truffles, creative mendiants and my personal favorites the chocolate salted caramels! Her chocolates are to die for and will be paired alongside a perfect selection of our red wines. We will be busting out some of our extremely limited stock of wines for these pairings, so you won’t want to miss it.

You can also meet Rebecca on Saturday and Sunday from 1 – 4pm as she discusses her passion for chocolate and shows us how to make our very own chocolate tuxedo strawberries.

But the decadence doesn’t stop there. On February 18th and 19th from 11 – 6pm, our featured chocolatier Nate Cox will be showcasing his liqueur and fruit-filled chocolate truffles paired alongside our luscious red wines. Stop in this weekend from 1 – 4pm and meet Nate. He will be demonstrating how to temper chocolates and will have tasty treats available too.

Lake Chelan Winterfest 2012

Happy New Year winos.
Come celebrate winter in the Lake Chelan Valley. Winterfest has been extended to two weekends for 2012. As always, there will be ice sculptures, live music, snowmobile races, and the best in the Valley’s fine wines. The Blending Room will be open longer hours and extra days for wine tastings and special events.

Winterfest Hours for The Blending Room:

Friday, January 6th: 12 – 7
Saturday, January 7th: 12 – 7
Sunday, January 8th: 12 – 6

Friday, January 14th: 12 – 7
Saturday, January 15th: 12 – 7
Sunday, January 16th: 12 – 6

We will be having special events both weekends including bonfires in the yard Friday and Saturday evenings after dark. There will be hot cayenne cocoa, fondue, and, of course, red wines to warm up with inside The Blending Room.

Where’s Wino? The Wine Loft.

The Wine Loft is a great wine shop in Olympia, Washington. This shop received high praise from 100% of the three people I know who live in Olympia. That caught my attention because all three have very different interests but all appreciate honestly unique spots to visit. I stopped into The Wine Loft on a short trip to Olympia and was impressed with the approachability of the owners and the wine selection. This is the wine shop I want in my town because it has friendly folks behind the counter who listen to what customers want and genuinely guide them in the proper direction. These things are refreshing in this wine world and align nicely with our approach at The Blending Room.

At The Wine Loft, you’ll find our 2009 Firá Gewurztraminer, 2008 Firá Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2008 Kamari Cabernet Franc. Stop in to meet the lovely owners, Jim and Mary Jones.

Winter Barrel Work

Just when we thought it was spring in Manson, we got two weeks of snowy weather here at The Blending Room. We have wine to rack soon, so the weather didn’t stop us from doing some barrel cleaning out in the snow. Racking helps clarify the wine by pulling the clean wine off the top while leaving the solid lees behind in the barrel. Longtime wino, Evan, came over from Chicago for a visit and we convinced him to help for a day in the cellar.

Evan assisted us with barrel washing, rinsing, scrubbing, moving and sulfuring just like a pro cellar rat. It’s a great help to have an extra pair of hands when moving around the heavy french oak barrels. It was a wet day at The Blending Room with a wild hose and melting snow, but any day the ends with a glassful of fine wine is a great one. I think our man, Evan, would agree.

Weathervanes and Tuxedo Strawberries

Today at The Blending Room was our first day of this year’s two-week Red Wine & Chocolate event. We had a demonstration from the chocolatier of Tempurr Artisan Confections, Rebecca Chatham, on how to make tuxedo strawberries. All weekend long, we’re featuring her chocolates in our special Red Wine & Chocolate pairing. Four of our fine reds each served with a little nugget of chocolate goodness. She’ll be around tomorrow while we’re pouring and pairing. Then at 5 pm, the WineGirl will be cutting into the handmade beehive cake and serving complimentary slices with all wine pairings.

And to complete the mood this weekend, we are showing off the work of local Manson artist Mark Strain. His metalwork designs are on display through tomorrow when from 3-5 pm he will be in The Blending Room talking about his technique and inspiration. Also featured is metalwork from another local artist Craig Dunning.

Come out tomorrow for handmade wines, chocolates and artworks. See you then.

There will be a variety of events throughout the valley during Lake Chelan’s upcoming TraX event this Presidents’ Weekend. One of our very special events for TraX is the TraX Art pARTy, a live artmaking show at The Blending Room.

Art pARTies Seattle is coming to Manson, Wash. and painting to the live DJ tunes while Angela and I pour the wine. This melding of live art, music and fine wine will make for an exciting evening. At the end of the night, the artists will raffle off their newly created works to the audience. It’s great fun and a great chance at some unique, original art.

There will be gourmet food provided by Chelan’s own Orchard Wood Ovens. Their specialty is delicious apple wood cooked flatbreads and pizzas. They will bring their mobile brick pizza oven to The Blending Room for the night and cook up several fine courses. There will be two flatbread choices including one with goat cheese and caramelized onions with a balsamic vinegar reduction. Also available will be four pizza choices including a white pizza with garlic olive oil, fontina cheese and prosciutto topped with fresh arugula. We will have our selections of our Fira and Kamari wines paired with the food courses of the night.

Meet the Artist: Shelley Mesenko-Mahan

This weekend in Manson, our Winterfest main event is an art showcase featuring encaustic paintings by Edmonds artist Shelley Mesenko-Mahan. We’ll have her works on special display all weekend long with Meet the Artist events on:

Saturday, January 15th from 5 – 7 and
Sunday, January 16th from 3 – 5.

The artist will be here to answer questions about beeswax and propane torches while she guides us through the pieces on display. There will be hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting, and a mellow mood.

Come enjoy fine art, sip some wine and be part of Winterfest specials on bottles during the show.

2011 is here.
Thanks to everyone who supported our winery through 2010. It was a great first year in our new Lake Chelan homebase. We worked hard and had a lot of fun behind the bar meeting new winos from all over the state and the world.

The Blending Room is open New Years Day 1/1/11 and Sunday 1/2/11
and every Saturday and Sunday 12 pm – 5 pm.

Remember that Winterfest is coming up soon: 1/14-16 in Manson and Chelan.
We’ll have special hours to fit in some very special events.
