Winter Barrel Work
Just when we thought it was spring in Manson, we got two weeks of snowy weather here at The Blending Room. We have wine to rack soon, so the weather didn’t stop us from doing some barrel cleaning out in the snow. Racking helps clarify the wine by pulling the clean wine off the top while leaving the solid lees behind in the barrel. Longtime wino, Evan, came over from Chicago for a visit and we convinced him to help for a day in the cellar. Today at The Blending Room was our first day of this year’s two-week Red Wine & Chocolate event. We had a demonstration from the chocolatier of Tempurr Artisan Confections, Rebecca Chatham, on how to make tuxedo strawberries. All weekend long, we’re featuring her chocolates in our special Red Wine & Chocolate pairing. Four of our fine reds each served with a little nugget of chocolate goodness. This weekend in Manson, our Winterfest main event is an art showcase featuring encaustic paintings by Edmonds artist Shelley Mesenko-Mahan. We’ll have her works on special display all weekend long with Meet the Artist events on: Saturday, January 15th from 5 – 7 and Sunday, January 16th from 3 – 5. The artist will be here to answer questions about beeswax and propane torches while she guides us through the pieces on display. There will be hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting, and a mellow mood. 2011 is here. Thanks to everyone who supported our winery through 2010. It was a great first year in our new Lake Chelan homebase. We worked hard and had a lot of fun behind the bar meeting new winos from all over the state and the world.
